Von Krahl Fairy Tales

Von Krahl Fairy Tales

A theatre production for children aged 7-77, based on Chinese fairy tales.

Von Krahl Fairy Tales is the theatre’s first children’s production of the millennium.
And of course, we haven’t cut any corners – it’s a dynamic and enthralling tale, seasoned with unexpected twists and a Von Krahlesque mix of laughter and tears.
How to recognise what we’ve been given? Should we accept it and how?
How to find peace and happiness?
Where do peace and happiness lie?

We perform stories about animals and men, adventures and fortunes, tears and laughter, joy and pain, horrible beginnings and happy endings.
We narrate an ancient story of a blind boy, who grows up in the woods among animals. From them, he learns the art of storytelling and invents the world’s first musical instrument, inspired by birdsong.
Realising he’s blind, the boy sets off on an adventure-filled journey to find new eyes among people.
In addition to old Chinese fairy tales, we have drawn inspiration from blues legend Robert Johnson. According to legend, he became a musician thanks to meeting a large black man at a crossroads at midnight, who tuned his guitar.
After that, Bob became a masterful singer and guitarist, who spent his life travelling around.
Our protagonist also comes into contact with forces that gift him with special powers, which start to transform his life.
What that life is like, can be seen in the theatre.
