Nothing prepares you for love. Love is enormous and there’s more of it than can fit into one person. Love that, instead of bringing you closer to others, separates you from everyone and condemns you to loneliness and madness. Is it possible to endure this? No, but you must.
Sarah Kane’s poetic voice cuts to the bone and gets so personal it makes your skin crawl. “Cleansed” premiered in 1998 at Royal Court Theatre, London.
It is the first part of director Juhan Ulfsak’s Sarah Kane tour de force of two interconnected productions performed in a row during one night: 19:00 “Cleansed” (90 minutes) and 21:00 “4.48 Psychosis” (45 minutes). Cleansed / Psychosis is an artistic cooperation between Von Krahl’s two actor generations both intertwining and commenting their views of art and life in Estonia.
Juhan Ulfsak (b. 1973) is renowned Estonian actor and director who has been working for art past 20 years. He has been several times a nominee for Best Male actor by Estonian Theatre Society and awarded as one in 2011. He was one of the creators of Von Krahl’s play “The Swan Lake” that, among other awards, received New York Dance and Performance Award “The Bessie 2004”. He is known for his roles in legendary Estonian films, such as Veiko Õunpuu’s “Autumn Ball” (2007) and his latest role being in Pirjo Honkasalo’s “Concrete Night” (2013, premiere in Toronto Film Festival). LatelyJuhan Ulfsak has been working in Münchner Kammerspiele at “Der imaginäre sibirische Zirkus des Rodion Raskolnikow”, directed by Finnish director Kristian Smeds. Ulfsak’s previous work with Von Krahl’s younger troupe was Lars von Trier’s “Idiots” (2010). Juhan Ulfsak has been essential part of Von Krahl Theatre’s avantgardist endeavour since 1998.
