There is no doubt that Kristian Smeds is Finland’s most daring theatre director. Through Von Krahl, Estonian audiences have also learned to love this emotional and wild Finnish genius. His unexpected interpretations of classic works are both famous and infamous and make theatre festival rounds from Moscow to Brussels. These individual and demanding plays call for a new kind of flexible and intelligent actor – just the kind Von Krahl has trained in collaboration with the University of Tartu’s Viljandi Culture Academy. The chemical theatre reaction that has lasted for the past four years is finally coming to an end and we can already hear the explosion.
The young, multi-talented and tough actors are bursting with creative anger, passion and energy. Just holding back the almighty force of humour and improvisation until the floodgates open, unleashing a current of punk, strange Slavic traditions, travesty and astounding surprises. 12Karamazovs is not just another interpretation of a classic, but a bright state of mind to which the whole team is committed. Cheer them on and get caught up in the whirlwind.
